(Disclaimer: This request is about SITC, and never having been to SITC, I don’t know much about what actually happens there. I’m assuming from a few pictures that I saw that a lot of YouTubers meet up with fans in like a large open field for photos and autographs. So that’s how I’ll write it – sorry if it’s incorrect!)
You clutch onto your best friends arm, both of you are at SITC for the first time, practically jumping out of your skins as you search the crowd for your favorite YouTubers. She and you finally separate after a bit, as she’s searching for Alex Day and you’re itching to find Dan Howell.
You feel a bit strange here, as you look around and notice that most of the girls are much younger than you – ranging from about twelve to sixteen, and you’re almost eighteen. However, you were fifteen when you started watching Dan and Phil, so you understand the younger girls’ love for those beautiful YouTubers.
And suddenly your heart jumps up into your throat as you catch sight of Dan.
He’s standing in a small group of girls, all of them quite young, maybe thirteen. He’s smiling whilst looking down at an autograph he’s signing, and starts to laugh at something one of the girls said. You admire his irresistible dimples, his almost twinkling brown eyes, and his glossy, smooth dark hair. He’s taller than you expected; he says he’s six feet tall, but your father is six feet and Dan is definitely taller than him. He’s got that long lanky body that you know so well from watching him for three years. He swears under his breath as his left hand smudges an autograph he was writing. As the girls thank him and walk away, he’s rubbing at the ink on the side of his hand, trying to wipe it off.
You take a deep breath, and steady yourself before walking up to him. He doesn’t notice you right away, as he seems caught up in removing the ink from his skin.
“Um, excuse me, Dan?” you ask hesitantly.
He looks up, and your heart flutters because you can’t believe that Dan Howell is looking into your eyes. “Hi. Nice to meet you,” he says, immediately putting his ink-smudged hand in his pocket, “Would you like a photo?”
“Yes, please,” you say, and he puts his arm around your waist as you snap a picture of yourself and him. He had to bend slightly to be closer to your height.
You want to say something, but you’re at a loss for words. You’re glad when he says, “Are you enjoying the gathering? There are not as many people here this year. Last year it was a mania.”
“Really? I couldn’t go last year. But I think there’s not as many people cause Carrie and Charlie aren’t here,” you say, looking around. You hadn’t really thought about it, but you suppose there aren’t as many people as you would have expected.
“”Probably. Charlie attracts a lot of screaming twelve year olds,” Dan chuckles.
“I can imagine,” you say, “I didn’t expect so many younger girls to be here.”
“Yeah, a lot of my audience is getting younger and younger. If you don’t mind my asking, how old are you? Just cause you’re one of the rare older fans,” Dan asks, and he does act kind of awkward – but that just makes you love him more, and feel a bit more comfortable.
“I’m eighteen,” you answer.
“Oh, how long have you been watching?” Dan asks, but he’s interrupted by a group of girls asking for photos. “I’ll be just a sec,” he says, looking at you as if asking you to stay. You can’t believe you’re actually having a conversation with him.
After some pictures and autographs, a bit of small talk and some thank you’s, Dan’s back to talking to you. “So have you watched my stuff for a while?”
“Yeah, since the beginning,” you say, “I’ve always wanted to start a YouTube channel, but I was too self-conscious to upload any videos. Every time I sat in front of a camera to talk, I ended up just deleting the video.”
“Aw, that’s too bad. You’d probably get a lot of fans. But part of what made me start was this video I saw saying how you should do what you want to in life, otherwise if you won’t, you’ll never have that chance again. It’s really inspirational, but I don’t remember what it’s called…” Dan bites his lip in concentration.
“Is it by a YouTuber? Or is it just a general motivational thing?” you ask, curious about this video as you feel like all you need is a small push to get you to start actually becoming a YouTuber.
“No it’s not a YouTuber, it’s about planning your life out and crap. I have a link to it saved on my phone…” Dan says, and pats his pants pockets, searching for it. “Damn it, I think I left my phone at home. Here, give me your number, just, uh, write it…on my hand, why not…and I’ll send you the link when I get back to my flat,” Dan says while handing you his autograph sharpie.
“Okay, sure, thanks,” you answer, still comprehending the fact that Dan asked your for your number. You take his hand gingerly in yours, admiring the slightly tanned, smooth skin, and write your number across it.
“Great, I’ll send you it later. I think you’d make a great YouTuber,” he smiles, and you practically swoon at his dimples and perfect lips and teeth.
But before you get to answer, Phil comes over and says, “Alex has been looking for you, Dan,” and then Phil looks at you, gives you a smile and a wave, and tugs at Dan’s arm.
“Okay, just a sec, Phil,” he says, and then turns to you, “Is it okay if I uh, call you sometime? You know, I can help with your videos and stuff.”
“Yeah! That’d be amazing, thank you, Dan,” you answer, handing him his sharpie back.
“No problem…uh…oh, I didn’t even get your name,” Dan smiles.
“(y/n),” you answer.
“Okay, well, goodbye, (y/n). I’ll talk to you soon!” Dan waves and turns to walk away with Phil.
Two days later, after 48 hours of neurotically checking your phone very five seconds for a new message from an unknown number, your phone lights up with an incoming call. “Blocked caller” it reads, and your hands shake as you pick it up.
“Hello?” you answer, your heart beating fast.
“(y/n)? It’s Dan, how are you?” you hear a familiar voice say.
“I’m great, how have you been?” you ask, knowing that you may be on the phone for a while.
